Dominican muralism is a universe that every artist must explore at some point in his life, because as Gabriel Castillo, author of the Palma Sola Graphic Novel Project, said:
Dominican comic artists cannot settle for just studying sequential art, every artist must explore theater, dance, muralism and music because it is only when artists diversify their sources of inspiration that they can create true cultural products.
–Gabriel Castillo
It is impossible not to explore Dominican muralism with so many wonderful exponents, including Will Gom , Dovente , Angurria , Shak0785 , among others.
Thus, it is an honor for us to share the experience of Mistica Rouxen, a young visual artist who has stood out for exploring various disciplines, including our raison d'etre, sequential art.
A mystical experience
Hello, I am MISTICA, one of the lucky participants of the Muralizing Our Heritage workshop taught at the cultural center of Spain by the teachers Eddaviel and Modafoca .
My experience in this workshop has been one of the most incredible I have had so far, the opening on the first day with the joy of listening to GEO RIPLEY expose his experiences as an artist and as a human being was just inspiring. On top of that I can't thank EDDAVIEL and MODAFOCA enough for teaching us the fundamentals of MURALISM, how to use the materials that are used to work and how the composition of the pieces is worked from a small to a large scale.
Working with my colleagues was very pleasant and we flowed incredibly, even the attention provided by the security crew and each one of the employees of the Spain cultural center was exceptional. In the process, so many important artists came to visit us that I certainly consider it one of the most beautiful moments of my life so far.
Thank you guys and thank you to my talented teachers and the cultural center of Spain for the opportunity.

What was the workshop about?
According to the Cultural Center of Spain in Santo Domingo (CCESD):
It was a practical theoretical workshop taught by the artist Eddaviel (Edison Montero). Aimed at artists or illustrators who wish to venture into muralism from one of the priority axes of the Cultural Center of Spain, the conservation and enhancement of the Dominican tangible and intangible heritage, which we address within the framework of the Heritage Program.
It consists of an introduction to the subject at hand given by Geo Ripley (musician, visual artist and researcher), as well as to the history of muralism given by the curator Jorge González Fonseca.

Murals that are born from the heart
What caught our attention the most about talking to Mística was the jovial nature of the learning environment that Eddaviel and Modafoca made possible. True artists enjoy every part of the process.
Muralizing heritage may sound boring, who wants to go back to the past when there is so much to see in the future? The reality is that having a foot in the past while looking into the future is the best basis for understanding our identity.
We conclude this article with a new mural that is also a work of art with a heart.
